Branka Lugonja works within the so-called kiln-formed or cold glass technique and utilizes float glass. Fusing, slumping, sagging, and casting are various processes she employs in the treatment of glass sheets. Branka transforms the glass with her artistic touch using special glass paints, different metals, and oxides. When these elements fuse together at extreme temperatures, typically between 700 and 1000 degrees Celsius, often between two layers of glass, complex chemical and physical processes come into play. The result can be both captivating and unpredictable. Colors can transform, fade, or even disappear, and unexpected patterns and effects can emerge in the glass. Over the years and through accumulated experience, Branka has become better at mastering these challenges, allowing her to focus more on the artistic expression.
When the kiln is finally opened, the moment is filled with anticipation and excitement. It is here that the artist determines whether a bowl, sculpture, candle holder, splash plate, or wall installation has achieved the desired form and beauty.
If the firing is successful, the artist may decide that the work is complete. If not, the process can continue with techniques such as sandblasting, engraving, or even entirely new approaches.
The illumination of glass art can vary, either by backlighting or from the side. The dynamics of light add a new dimension to each piece of glass art, allowing viewers to enjoy its constant transformation. Branka's artworks find their place in private homes, commercial properties, and public spaces in Denmark, as well as in many other countries around the world.
Anyone who chooses this form of decoration embraces an art form that radiates with life and depth.
